This plot is located roughly 30 m west of an Abies balsamea / Alnus incana ssp. rugosa woodland. This is the most sensitive community I have seen on Mill Run. There are large patches on both sides of the creek. Just west of this community along the stream is an open wet meadow dominated Calamagrostis canadensis, Carex srticta, and Phalaris arundinacea, interspersed with Juncus / Scirpus seeps.;Early successional herbaceous community. Disturbances are flooding, historic logging and grazing. This plot is in a small seep coming out of an Abies / Alder woodland. The Typha appears to be invading the seep communities. I can see another patch roughly 200m east across Mill Run. This area is within the state park where hunting is prohibited. So deer overpopulation and herbivory is the major threat to natural communities. Except in the case of Abies which is also being attacked by the woody adelgid.
Representativeness
Small patch herbaceous seep being invaded by Typha.
